What does natural skincare mean?

At bee yü, natural skincare means taking the very best ingredients nature has to offer and blending them into our potent formulas. The majority of our ingredients are natural (come directly from nature) or are naturally derived (are obtained from a processed product from nature).

We do not use synthetic fragrances, parabens, petrochemicals, SLS/SLES (sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate) or any other unnecessary synthetic substances in our products.

Where are bee yü natural skincare products made?

All bee yü products are made in New Zealand and we work with the leading suppliers of Manuka honey, royal jelly and bee venom in New Zealand to ensure we do no harm to the bee population.

How is bee venom collected for skincare?

We only use ethically sourced, naturally derived bee venom sourced in New Zealand by ApiHealth, the first and most well-known bee venom manufacturer in the country.

Using patented technology, high-grade bee venom is collected on an electrified glass frame when bees arrive at the entrance of the hive. The bees receive a very mild electric pulse when they land on the plate, which encourages their sting response. Because the frame is glass, the bees do not lose their stinger, nor are they harmed in any way by the mild electric pulse.

You can find out more over on the  Apihealth website.

What is royal jelly and how is it collected?

Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used to nourish larvae and adult queen bees. It is protein-rich and packed with complex B vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, minerals and enzymes, which give it natural antibiotic and antibacterial properties.

When a bee hive is making new queens, the workers construct special queen cells, feeding the larvae in these cells with plenty of royal jelly. Although all bee larvae are fed with royal jelly, after three days, only the queen cells are continued to be fed with this protein-rich secretion, causing them to develop differently from the rest.

Royal jelly is collected from each individual queen cell (honeycomb) when the queen larvae are about four days old. Since the queen cells are ‘stocked up’ with more royal jelly faster than they can consume it, there is a surplus which can be harvested. Our royal jelly is ethically sourced from bees located in our own regulated New Zealand hives, so that we can guarantee its quality and purity.

Can I use bee yü products if I have a bee or wasp allergy?

We do not recommend using our products if you have a bee or wasp allergy. We advise you to patch test our natural skincare products prior to use.

Are bee yü products suitable for sensitive skin?

Unless you have a bee or wasp allergy, our range of products are suitable for all skin types, however, we always advise you to patch test our products prior to use.

Our product formulas are rich and creamy, and Manuka Honey can be especially soothing to sore and inflamed skin and has natural healing powers to neutralise skin’s PH levels and aid repair. It’s also great for spot-prone skin as naturally occurring acids aid in the clearing of dead skin cells and prevention of acne by oxygenating pores to help draw out bacteria.

Do bee yü products contain gluten?

Our range of natural skincare products do not contain gluten, however we cannot guarantee they are entirely gluten-free as they may be processed in a factory that handles gluten.

Are bee yü products vegan?

No, bee yü products contain multiple bee by-products including Manuka honey, royal jelly and bee venom and therefore cannot be classified as vegan.

Do bee yü products contain parabens or SLES?

We do not use synthetic fragrances, parabens, petrochemicals, SLS/SLES (sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate) or any other unnecessary synthetic substances in our products.

Are bee yü products organic?

No, bee yü products cannot be classified as organic. We take great care in sourcing our botanicals, but currently many of them are impossible to source organically. We are confident that our suppliers are taking care of the planet as they grow these special ingredients for us.

Can I have an allergic reaction to bee yü products?

Yes, if you have a bee or wasp allergy then it is possible for you to have an allergic reaction to our products. We advise you not to use our products if you have a bee or wasp allergy and always patch test first.

Our bee venom face mask can cause skin to feel hot, tingly and appear red for a short period. This is the same reaction you get when you are stung by a bee, but without any pain. The bee venom the skin into ‘repair mode’, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, two naturally occurring key proteins that help skin to stay strong, firm and youthful.

Only leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes and follow with our rich day or night cream. Any redness will usually disappear within 30 minutes or so.

Does bee yü test on animals?

Absolutely not. Our products never have been, and never will be, tested on animals.
